History has recorded it that Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha in August this year declared himself an enemy of the people by destroying the Ekeukwu market of Owerri popularly known as Ekeonunwa. He further proved himself a lawless man in the manner he defied the court to carry out the demolition. He did the damage, and while the people are still licking the wounds he is still dishing out rubbish to justify his 'Boko haramic' and wicked action which has attracted public outcry. An Owerri based tabloid had carried the news item recently to the effect that the governor destroyed the market because the traditional market was linked to a female deity.

In the Press release made available by his Press Secretary Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor said that Imo state has been delivered to God and so he would not allow anything to the contrary. He also noted that it was for this same reason that he erected the status of a man with the bible at the junction. For me the governor's argument is simply an after-thought designed to hoodwink as usual Imo people. Recall that the governor had earlier mentioned that the reason for the relocation was the usage of the market as hide out for hoodlums and that it created traffic jam at Douglas road.
And we ask is Saul also among the prophets? Is Rochas Okorocha also among the godly men in the state? Did he repent today? Who led him to God? He cannot stop regaling us. We are tired of this his theatrical shows. If the reason adduced by the governor is anything to go by, then he has a lot of work to do. He should be prepared to destroy all the markets in Imo state. It might sound rude and insulting to say that this calls to question the paternity of the governor not to know the origin of the market days in Igbo land. The traditional men around him should give him some tutorials on Igbo Cosmology relating to the four market days of EKE, ORIE, AFOR, NKWO and its traditional connection. All the markets bearing the above names are linked to deities. This is same way we have Sunday named after the day of the worship of the Sun gods by the Romans. Will the governor also abolish Sunday worship?
'My governor my governor', now that you know?  It does mean the fate that befell Ekeukwu Owerri will be meted out to these markets by implication. It is because the governor is bereft of knowledge of the workings of the traditional institutions in the state with respect to the culture of Igbo land that is the reason he has bastardized the chieftaincy institutions in the state. Little wonder there are rifts here and there in the communities. Okorocha himself has no respect for the traditional institution or elders. Nine times he was floored in the court by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya who is seeking to reclaim his seat as the Chairman Imo State Council of traditional rulers but Okorocha in his usual lawlessness would have none of it. At a point he threatened to banish the man even with all the support from his people.
I suspect Okorocha is suffering from condemnation of his conscience and is clutching on every straw to justify his illicit actions. He felt that because of the disposition of Imolites as Christians they would be impressed with his new found excuse. If Okorocha has shame and conscience he would mind what he is saying to the people. He has no followership any more except the few hangers on around him who are clinging on to whatever crumbs that would fall from his table. They are also disenchanted with Oga Rochas but are sticking with him because of unemployment and hunger too. They don't like him one bit because their kits and kin and friends are also victims of Rochas obnoxious policies.
If Rochas thinks anybody is still following him let him come out and play his usual deceitful game of eating akara in the street and shout 'my people my people'. The few people that still attend his activities are usually the rented crowd they go to the villages to hire, usually poor women they deceive with food and sometimes they abandon them. If Rochas chased out Imo traders from Ekeukwu because it is linked to a female deity can someone tell him that the Christmas he celebrates with all funfair is also a pagan festival. This season alone we have heard that a whooping N850m has been earmarked for decorations alone, which contract rumours have it is given as usual to a member of the Owelle dynasty. Did they actually pass this in Imo budget? Where are our Assembly men and their oversight functions?  Is this not kettle calling pot black?
Rochas Okorocha is mouthing God pretending to be a Christian when his actions do not in any way come close to what is expected of a Christian. He would be burdening himself with more guilt if he is calling God and doing evil to the real children of God. Remember God is not mocked. His punishment may be slow in coming but it will definitely come. By the way can someone confirm if the governor has redeemed the N50m dud cheque he issued to the Catholic Church sometimes ago? Can someone be so smart as to entangle himself with God? Okorocha have not told us the real reason he destroyed Ekeukwu Owerri. One day we will know the truth.
