Owerri North Progressive Assembly, ONPA, a socio-political organization based in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo state, has called on interest groups in the administration nof Imo state to respect the equity mantra in the state.

The group in a communiqué issued after a strong-powered stakeholders meeting held in the area recently, made available to Nigeria Moment and signed by its president Victor Onyeulor, Secretary Hon. Jude Ewurum and PRO Prince Reginald Nwankere stated that Imo State belongs to all the constituent parts - Zones, LGAs and Wards, hence ONPA members believe fervently in the unity and progress of the State.
They noted that ONPA equally believes in the social, political, human and infrastructural development of the State and the development should be equitably spread as a catalyst to social harmony in the State.
The leaders equally resolved to respect and keep faith with the charter of equity on power sharing in the state as signed/endorsed by the leadership of the three zones in 1999, pointing out that in terms of governorship of the state, for equity and good conscience to prevail, the zone that is least advantaged, in this case Owerri, should be given the chance to produce the governor come 2019; being that Orlu zone through Achike Udenwa and Owelle Rochas Okorocha would have done 16 years by May 2019.
According to them, Okigwe zone through Chiefs Sam Mbakwe and Ikedi Ohakim had together governed for 8 years and 3 months. Here-to-fore, Owerri zone through Chief Evan Enwerem had governed for just 18 months, stressing that it was in the light of this that the Owerri North Progressive Assembly resolved to mobilize support for any credible candidate from Owerri zone irrespective of the political party affiliation. Therefore ONPA advised all political parties to adhere to their party's internal democratic principles for the emergence of credible candidates.
