It was drama in Imo State Government House as Imo Judges refused to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Okorocha's newly nominated candidate, Mr. Calistus Ekenze, for Office of the Deputy Governor following the restraining order of the court served on the Chief Judge and other parties involved in the Deputy Governor's impeachment debacle.

This was announced at the floor of Sam Mbakwe Expanded Executive Chamber by the Attorney General of Imo State, Chief Miletus Nlemadim after a long wait of the government officials and family members of Mr. Ekenze. It was gathered that the Presiding Judge of High Court 8, Imo High Court, Owerri, Hon. Justice Benjamin Iheaka, Monday ruled on the request of Prince Madumere's lead Counsel, Chief Ken Njemanze (SAN) for interlocutory injunction restraining the parties involved in the process of removing the Deputy Governor from office, had submitted that for the sake of justice and the request was well placed. Justice Iheaka thereby granted an Order restraining the Chief Judge, Speaker and members of Imo State House of Assembly including the 7 Man panel from further action until all matters that bothered on the constitutionality of the processes were determined.

In defiance to court order, Speaker Acho Ihim’s faction of the lawmakers loyal to Governor Okorocha who could not even make up a quorum in Nicodemus manner purportedly impeached the Deputy Governor even as newsmen were refused entry into the chambers. The Attorney General of the State, Hon. Nlemadim, who was present in the court when Justice Iheaka made the  restraining order, knowing the dire consequences if the exercise of swearing-in of the purported nominated candidate of the Governor, which tantamount to illegality, was said to have prevailed on the Governor to rescind his decision. The developments brought some relief in the polity as people were seen discussing in groups.

It will be recalled that Governor Okorocha's grouse against his Deputy was alleged to have been hinged on his blatant refusal to support his son-in-law, Mr. Uche Nwosu for governor, and other sundry issues that bother on policies and their negative effect on the people. Again, Prince Madumere was said to have insisted on power shift to Owerri zone against having a son-in-law who is also from Orlu zone that has ruled the State for about 16 years.

Group under the auspices of “The Reality Chambers” has condemned in its entirety the purported impeachment of the deputy governor of Imo state, Prince Eze Madumere describing it as a show of shame and desecration of the hallowed chambers of the Imo state House of Assembly. The group in a statement by the regional coordinator, Elder Justice Eke said that the action would not stand the taste of the law, adding that the majority of Imo people have lost confidence in the government of APC and Rochas Okorocha in Imo state.  According to the statement, the action has brought shame to the state where the entire world sees Imo House of Assembly and its members as non-respecter of law. Meanwhile, in disobedience to the restraining order against the Chief Judge, the 7 man panel, Speaker and members of Imo State House of Assembly from further action on the controversial impeachment proceeding against the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, the House of Assembly in Gestapo manner, has purportedly removed the Deputy Governor of the state from office.

The Presiding Judge of High Court 8, Justice Benjamin Iheka had restrained the 7 man panel of Inquiry constituted by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Paschal Nnadi, the Chief Judge, Speaker and members of Imo State House of Assembly over a matter brought before the court that bothers on constitutional breaches in the procedure adpted to remove the Deputy Governor from the office. The Acho Ihim led faction of the members of the House sponsored by Governor Okorocha this evening against the Court Order and the rule of law illegally removed the Deputy Governor in a kangaroo manner.

Against the requirement of the law, Prince Madumere was not given fair hearing as he was neither invited during the sitting of the investigative committee in the House of Assembly nor by the seven man panel set up the Chief Judge.

It will be recalled that Prince Madumere through his Counsel, Chief Ken Njemanze (SAN) had served the Chief Judge, Speaker and members of Imo State House of Assembly coupled with the members of the 7 man panel over a breach in the service of  notice of Gross Misconduct and other illegality, even as the Deputy Governor was not mandatorily served as required by law. The report has it that the 7 man of inquiry never sat for one day as no location where they sat in the court premises was mentioned; even as the Deputy Governor and other parties to the impeachment procedure were never summoned, thereby stalling room for fair hearing. This development in the State has drawn an outrage as cross section of Imolites are reacting, describing Imo State House of Assembly as mere rubber stamps who have become willing tools in the hands of Okorocha who does not obey court orders.

According to Barr. Ikechukwu Nwaopara, he described the action of the lawmakers as legislative rascality, which cannot stand the test of time having been restrained by the court of competent jurisdiction. He therefore called on the people of the State to remain calm since the matter is already before the court, assuring that justice will prevail. Reacting to the development, Engr. Okey Njoku, an oil worker, called for quick recall of the lawmakers that participated in what he described as Kangaroo removal of the Deputy Governor from the office, assuring that Okorocha and his co travellers have met their Waterloo with the illegality of their action. Nze Stanley Onuoha, an All Progressives Congress Chieftain, described the illegal removal of the Deputy Governor of Imo State as subjudiced since the matter since they had been restrained by the court of competent jurisdiction. He also took a swipe at Imo lawmakers described them as mere bench warmers. He further opined the Imo State has been made a laughing stock for disobedience of rule of law.
