There were apprehensions amongst members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP over the rumoured endorsement of former Speaker of House of Representatives and Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal by the leadership of the party.

The purported endorsement was said to have formed the decision of the party's leadership to hold the national convention in Port Harcourt for security reasons, hence the Rivers State governor was the architect of the endorsement. Nigeria Moment also gathered that the convention may be graced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo who was expected to make public before the convention proper. Tambuwal, according to sources was adopted as an antidote to the lingering brouhaha in the country having ceded the presidential slot to the North and he is the only acceptable contender across parties from the region who has the capacity to confront the incumbent.
Most of the lawmakers and governors have vowed to vote either the senate president, Bukola Saraki or Tambuwal but the Tambuwal is receiving more acceptability as boards. Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had on Wednesday night held a closed- door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his Abeokuta residence. Tambuwal, who addressed journalists after the meeting which lasted for about 50 minutes and ended few minutes to 9.pm, saying he was in Abeokuta to consult with the former President in respect of the 2019 polls.
“Obasanjo is one of the critical leaders of the country and it is necessary for me to consult with him concerning the 2019 polls, particularly on my aspiration to contest for the presidency of Nigeria.”
Tambuwal is seeking seeks to be president in 2019 on the platform of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It was gathered that Obasanjo who led Nigeria on the PDP platform (1999-2007) left the party in the build up to the 2015 general election and supported President Muhammadu Buhari then but has since fallen out with the president and is working against his re-election.
The governor expressed optimism that Nigeria could still attain greater and enviable height particularly if the citizens vote rightly in the 2019 polls. He advised that every component part of the nation should be given an opportunity and sense of belonging in the Nigerian context. He described the clamour by the youths for increased participation in the governance process in Nigeria as ” justified” considering the high percentage of their population in the country.
