All Progressives Congress stalwart from Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state, Chief Enyinna Onuegbu has identified the APC governorship candidate in the state, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma as “champion” of Imo politics in this dispensation.

Speaking to a cross section of journalists in Owerri, yesterday Thursday, Chief Onuegbu noted that the successful emergence of Sen. Hope Uzodinma as the APC guber candidate in the 2019 general elections is the best thing that has happened to not only the party but Imolites in general. X-raying further the victory chances of APC in Imo state during the polls, Onuegbu, a legal luminary declared that with Hope Uzodinma and his men, the party is hopeful of victory, adding that APC is working towards wining more states in the South East than losing the one they have already and furthered that APC has two senators, 4 House of Representatives members and overwhelming majority of about 24 members at the state Assembly. According to him, as an experienced politician, Imo state is favoured with Uzodinma and APC by popular votes, pointing out that he has not read from anywhere a strong member of APC in Imo state defected to the opposition, PDP; hence he described Uzodinma as a bridge builder, stressing that since the tsunami movement of Hope, the joy eroded the popularity of PDP in the state because he left with the masses except for the few elites and yesterdays men of power desperate to recover their heaven.
Onuegbu was emphatic that with the experience of Hope's second term and coming from Orlu zone with 12 local governments, the only politician who parades intimidating electoral results and political dossier and the only politician who has posted better election results than Hope is Sen. Arthur Nzeribe. Orlu has 12 LGs and least guber candidates in Imo state for the 2019 polls from the 95 registered political parties, so his victory is certain.
On the chances of Uzodinma's victory in view of the intra-party wrangling and interests of the sitting governor, Onuegbu recalled that Uzodinma's victories in the senate were against the political interests and platform of the incumbent governor, stating that in Owerri zone, Hope is seen as a friend and acknowledged as a supporter of the churches. He also led the movement to save Owerri zone from the embarrassment of a second impeachment of an indigene as Deputy Governor in the person of Prince Eze Madumere. From his PDP days, Enyinna noted that the APC guber hopeful had maintained structures as ward executives in the 305 wards of the state, LG excos in the 27 LGs, in the three senatorial zones and state executives and they are running since four years now.
According to the APC stalwart, Uzodinma is the highest financier of party structures in the state and that was why since he left PDP, the party has been unable to hold any statewide rally or function because he went away with hope of Imo followers. But when Hope came into APC, he was warmly received by Mr. President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, 5 state governors, full compliment of the National Working Committee of the party and national leaders of the party. He maintained that since Uzodinma joined APC in Imo state, the rating of the party has tremendously increased because he is the “new face” of APC in Imo. Imolites only saw APC through the eyes of governor Okorocha and his eyes were scary because of the hardship his administration had occasioned on the people.
Onuegbu disclosed that by affirming Sen. Uzodinma as candidate, there has been fresh breath into APC and Imo people will demonstrate their love and support for his candidacy when he returns to Imo in few days coming. Nevertheless, Onuegbu submitted further that since the announcement of his candidature, both Sen. Hope Uzodinma and his principal supporters have been reaching out to leading Imo politicians and leaders and their responses have been affirmative on his acceptability, as a pan-Imo candidate whose background does not disclose nepotism, zoning, irredentism and “parapoism”.  Uzodinma has equally extended his olive branch to his fellow contestants in the likes of the deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere, former Secretaries to the Government of Imo state, Sir George Eche and Sir Jude Ejiogu respectively and Dr. Chris Nlemoha who have thrown their weights behind his candidature, except the minor disagreement by the governor's son-inlaw unreasonably being fanned by the governor himself which they hope to be resolved.
According to him, “we can say that Uzodinma is on his way to achieving a massive victory”.   Onuegbu said that “I stand to be contradicted that the name “Hope” is the most popular in Imo politics today that does not need billboards and majority of Imo people don't care where he comes from because he is seen as Imo champion and Ogbuagu”. While thanking Imo people for their patience despite some shortcomings, Onuegbu assured them that Hope is on the way for Imo state and they shall cry no more.
