There were strong indications that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC has concluded arrangements to distance themselves and the presidency from supporting the candidature of the party for the Imo West senatorial district, popularly called Orlu zone of Imo state extraction and its candidate, governor Rochas Okorocha, stating that the party cannot manage any longer the excesses of the governor and his utterances.

They equally accused the governor of suffering from lose of political consciousness and conscientiousness

According to APC sources, the decision of the party to stay off her party in Imo state and Imo West in particular was informed by the alleged anti-party roles of the governor by his insistence on his son-inlaw to succeed him from another party, AA in defiance of the order and provisions of the constitution of the party. Rising from the party’s extra-ordinary leadership meeting in Abuja Monday, the source which does not want his name on print told Nigeria Moment that the party may be routing for its former national organizing secretary and candidate of APGA, Sen. Osita Izunaso not minding his present platform. It stated that they claimed that Izunaso is APGA on paper and APC in spirit and body, furthering that shortly after he is declared winner, he will rejoin APC. The source described APGA as a mere hired platform to reach their destinations after which they will return to their base since the state leadership of the party and its pilot and the governor, chose to mismanage their affairs.

It stressed that the decision of the leadership of the party on Rochas may possibly affect other national Assembly candidates of the party from other zones if not properly managed. They were afraid that the candidates, who are the governor’s close associates if allowed to be at the NASS, may make the nation ungovernable for the government of APC if its presidential candidate wins. The source stated that the party sees Izunaso as their own more than Rochas even as governor, adding that the fight “operation stop Rochas” is a build-up for the 2023 polls because he, Rochas has made public speeches on his presidential ambition in 2023 after Buhari if he is re-elected in 2019 when he must have completed his mandatory two terms.

Meanwhile, Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has called on Nigerians to begin to celebrate their leaders and people who have done well in their chosen careers when they are alive and not when they are dead, regretting that in this part of the world, people condemn their leaders while alive but celebrate them when they are dead. The Governor spoke at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Launch for 2019 on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Government House Owerri, adding that Nigerians should see the need to celebrate the nation’s heroes, both those alive and those that have died since patriotism is not in the love of the law but in the love of one’s Country. The governor also said that the insurgence in the North East would have gone out of hand if not the coming of Muhammadu Buhari as the President of the Country, stressing that the President must be commended for the fight against Insurgence and his love for this Country.

He stated “I want to commend President Buhari for his show of leadership with what is happening in the North East. I don’t know what the situation in the North-East would have been like if President Buhari was not the President of Nigeria now. It would have been better imagined than seen. President Buhari must be commended, if not for anything, his fight against insurgence and his love for his country.”

The governor said “I am not one of those who Campaign for him for what he has done, I Campaign for him, for who he is. Buhari means well and he is not a cheat. Buhari will not lie to Nigerians. If he has made any mistake, it is a human mistake but he loves his nation and wants to do the best for this country without counting cost of returns”.

For the Legionaries, he stated “I am here to encourage you and officially launch this Emblem as a remembrance of those who had lost their lives and particularly for the widows who, from time to time remember the wonderful time they had with their spouses when they were still alive and what life looks like now without them. Ours is not to support you to sorrow but remind you of the wonderful sacrifices made by your spouses for our nation. This nation is with you and your governor is with you. We are all with you in prayers and we shall support you the much we can.” The Executive Chairman of the State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Comrade Anyanwu Alphonsus in his address said “The Federal Government of Nigeria set aside the 15th of January every year as the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The Emblem we are launching here today is one of the activities lined up to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2019. The Emblem Launching will be followed by Juma’at Service, Church Service and the Grand Finale on the 15th of January at the Heroes Square with parade and laying of wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”.

He noted “The fallen heroes laid down their lives for the security of the lives and property of all Nigerians. They left behind widows and orphans as well as disabled colleagues. The surviving colleagues are the Veterans you are seeing here today. They served the nation and are still serving as members of Nigerian Legion. Considering the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, nothing will be too big to support their widows and orphans as well as the disabled veterans”. The governor donated a bus to the State Chapter of the Legion and N5million.
