Oh no, what is the society turning into? one may ask. Oh no, what is the society turning into? one may ask. I recall vividly that a couple of years  ago, when our society was free of these inundated flurry of field crusades and night vigils, we as children used to follow our church teachers who were plentifully  available and sometimes, pastors , going round village squares for religious or Christian  evangelizations.

That was when time was time. Of course, only few people would turn up to listen to our messages. More often, than not, such gathering would feature singing of hymns from any of the books containing church hymns. Such hymn books may be ancient and modern songs, sanky etc. our evangelizations would be delivered in Igbo. Including native anthems.
Then the main business of the day would be reading of some texts from the bible both the old and new testaments.  The bible reading would centre of the true message of the scripture and Christian messages often concentrating on key issues of salvation, inheritance of kingdom of heaven, peaceful living, and acts of charity, love and good neighbourliness..
This form of local evangelization was very rampant among the few orthodox churches then catholic, Anglican(CMS)as it was known then, Apostles, Lutherans, Assembly etc. there was nothing like the preaching of earthly inheritance or today's preaching of “inheritance heaven and Earth.”
Then and only  then , there were no radio stations or televisions houses to be used to communicate messages on  mass level as they are currently  available today. Absolutely none.
But today, Christian leaders are lucky to have the availability of radio and television houses to communicate their messages to members of the public.
Unfortunately, it appears that these radio preachers including those who appear on television tub screens are seriously over. Stepping the bounds. And therefore need to be sounded some advice which they must not fail to heed.
In the first place, since appearances on radio are very costly and more so on televisions, it appears that some more prosperous and well to preachers are struggling to put other not so. Rich preachers off the “market of radio preaching.” Appear from dominating almost every radio station in the city or station; they are now attempting to even use such channels to be communicating what appears to be purely “commercial Christianity.” Besides, some have degenerated to using “phoning in methods” Offering prayers and deliverances instantly and the offer of instant prayer fulfillment and miracles. One may ask, “Is this in order and in accordance with Christian morality and ethics.
More often than not, what these modern radio preachers are concentrating on is not about “life everlasting” how best to inherit the kingdom of heaven and spiritual upliftment” no more. Today, if one may tune to another channel for other moral and social goods of the people, one would still hear the same voice blabbering onto another channel but with the same mode of “prosperity preaching” to make the listener to benefit on instant healing, prosperity of job business, acquisition of visa, gainful employment, good husband, good suitor, a lot of sale in today's market outing.” Hardly do we longer hear of those nice and kind well researched and presented preaching of gospels and scriptural messages which suit the mind and lifts up the spirit of a degenerated soul.
Of course, there just quite a few  out there that may still blend their preaching  with indeed soul searching  messages which can uplift a broken heart and hearts that are in need to be revived and confirmed that they do not fall the way sides.
Even if one is attracted by the sweet tongues and promised of some of these radio preacher to attend to their church service, that is. That is where one may see “the real commercial worshipping or different kinds. For those who made good sale this week, for those who want to travel, for those designing good suitors, for those who want new employment, for those who need employment, for those who want the fruit of the womb, for those who want to pas examination, for those who are desirous of church service these days means one surrendering, his or her life to “businessmen on the altar.
Another dimension added to these scenarios is the constant fabrications of stories of unimaginary dimensions. They are always concocting of fabricated stories of their exploits in miracle healing or other exploits or encounters they have overcome or even performed to woo over their gullible listeners. In short, wonders would never end.
It is so disheartening to see how these radio preachers “lords of Christian prosperity on radio” have turned the worshipping of God into areas of “ the more the preachers, the more the listeners is confused,” as the business preachers struggle to convert more bodies  and not souls. Unfortunately, the spirit has been abandoned on the altar “commercialism and prosperity.”
Thus, radio station managers, director of programmes and other key players in the electronic media houses must begin now to reassess these “messengers of messages and the contents of their sermons or messages to ensure that their channels were used to dish out those messages that are in line with societal decency and Christian ethos an and morality. Because, today there are too many radio preachers and too many pastors causing all heinous crimes in their ministries or churches. We must be alert before they set the society ablaze.
