The last Saturday Governorship election in Anambra state has been won and lost. As for me, it was not a surprise that Akpokuodike Willie Obiano won but what was surprising to me was how he summarily defeated all his rivals in the entire 21 LGAs of the state without at least sparing one state for any of the Contestants. He dusted all the hitherto big names in the state who had been assuming larger than life political posture in the state. Obiano literally put all of them inside a bottle and cocked them up. No doubt, Governor Willie Obiano has indeed opened up a new political vaster in Anambra state.

However, beneath that victory lies an ominous signal particularly for the South Easters. Obviously, the lessons are there already and those who are politically discerning enough can learn from it.
First is that the days of rigging and all manner of manipulations are getting over. The people are now beginning to resist certain orchestrations of the rich and the elites as could be seen with the Anambra election. APC for instance had the power of the federal government with its appurtenances in the areas of security and even INEC while the PDP had the backing of the old political and aristocratic folks. But APGA stood with the people and at the end, the Will of the people triumph over every other political make beliefs.
Again, that election threw up the fact that the Igbo speaking South Easterners are not happy with the ruling party presently. And a lot of developments have happened in the recent past in the zone that fueled this animosity. The federal government handling of the Nnamdi Kanu/IPOB matter where the federal government through its security agencies had to declare IPOB, a core Igbo organization a terrorist organization is considered as un-salutary. Today, the whereabouts of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a man who was controlling a cult-like fellowship among many Igbos particularly the young men is still unknown. And these were the same people you expect to vote for your party?
And the fact again remains that if the federal government does not address this seeming lack of trust and confidence among the majority of the Igbos on the ruling party, 2019 election may most likely go the way of Anambra state. The people may reject both APC and PDP in 2019. In the mind of an average Igbo person, rightly or wrongly, the present APC government is anti Igbo no thanks to the 95%- 5% affirmative declaration of the president.
Also, another lesson is that we are gradually seeing the end of goffatherism in politics in this part of the world. Who could have imagined that the kits and kins of Mr Peter Obis, Andy Ubas, Ngiges, Arthur Ezes, Emeka Offors etc of this world could vote against their benefactors and political demi gods in their localities? It is befalling as it is unbelievable. Honestly, the incumbent Governor Chief Willie Obiano deserves my congratulatory letter and pat on the back for unprecedentedly establishing a new political order in Anambra state. He has demonstrated that the people matter in governance. And he embraced the people. This was a Governor who was not interested in building statues but instead preferred to pay workers salary religiously without inexplicable deduction including being up to date with the payment of pensioners in Anambra state and the people nick named him 'the Alert Governor' He simply reaped from his hard labour.
Go to Anambra and see meaningful development in all areas not white wash type of projects we see around. Obiano is with the people and the people are with Obiano simple. In 2019, I see the wave of a new political order blowing across our head. Anambra has made a statement and the lessons are there for students of political history. So, I sincerely congratulate the AKpokuodike 1 of Aguleri Governor Willie Obiano for this well deserved victory. We are watching 2019. It is at this point that I shall pause a while. Until next week, please do not forget that we are Apostles on the Alter of Truth. Truth has always been our cornerstone. We profess it undiluted and it is only the same Truth that will set us free.
