The darling team of Owerri, the former Spartans and Iwuanyanwu Nationale, the exponent of scientific football is in deep, deep trouble as the Rochas Okorocha administration look set to escort the Naze Millionaires to a humiliating relegation to the lower less fancied second division of the Nigerian football fraternity.

Accusations and counter accusations have continued to dominate the downturn of the once glamorous team, the likes of Prince Lemmy Akakem, Uche Ejimofor, Chief Ignatius Okeahialam, etc, made the number one (1) football club in Nigeria. As at the end of week 23, Heartland is languishing in the relegation zone with a paltry 23 points, one point in a match while the likes of Wikki Tourists of Bauchi have 41 points. In the entire team of Heartland FC beginning from the inception of this administration, the team had had one crisis or the other with the club employing and sacking coaches and players as an Ariaria Market shoe maker.
The club has also had to endure constant change of management due to political interference from the government who most times hinges their decisions on political patronage. The governor's appointment of his kinsmen ab nitio started the downfall of this team. People that do not know anything about the history of the club, people that do not have passion for the club, people that will collect the whole entitlements of the team and live in splendor in hotels and eateries, people that do not have the welfare of the players and officials at heart, and people who will impose unqualified players on the coaching crew and demand that the players must be featured. In all honesty, Orlu people have killed Heartland FC. At the Umuahia Stadium, Heartland FC could not put their acts well to defeat a depleted Abia Warriors. The team played as if nothing was at stake and was disgraced in an oriental derby which the Umuahia based team used to psyche their players and earn a double, a consecutive double on the Owerri based team. Having defeated Heartland in Owerri, the boys inflicted another 1-0 victory to confine the team to the 17th position on the log and in the relegation zone.
Some people have blamed the Oscar Keke led management, or the influence of Imo deputy Speaker Ugonna Ozuruigbo, or even the players and coaching crew, but the whole blame should go to the governor for relegating sports in the state to a mere buying and selling vocation. If urgent steps are not taken, Heartland FC is going down and hell will be loosed in the state. Abia State has two professional teams and a viable female team that are doing well in the women football.
In other matches played over the weekend, Mountain of Fire Ministries, MFM, lost to the Olukoye Warriors, Shooting Stars of Ibadan 1-0 at the Agege Water Front, thus recording their first away win in the season. Wiki Tourists of Bauchi maintained their first spot by coming from behind to defeat 9-man Kano Pillars 3-1 at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi. The Pyramid boys had two of their players sent off in an ill tempered match. In Nnewi, rejuvenated FC Ifeanyi Uba defeated hard fighting Rivers United 2-0, the same score line that Akwa United dispatched El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Enugu Rangers cancelled an earlier lead by Niger Tornadoes to earn a point at Lokoja. Former Heartland FC winger Osas Okoro scored a scorcher to level for the Flying Antelopes.
